Wydaje mi się, że w codziennym życiu nieodzowne jest korzystanie z różnego rodzaju obiegowych opinii na jakiś temat czy o kimś. W tej sposób po prostu łatwiej funkcjonować - dokonując albo generalizacji, albo stereotypizacji. Ale taki stereotyp dość ciężko obalić, pomimo napływu nowych informacji, które są przyswajane bez zmiany stereotypu. Zastanawiające jest to jak łatwo< bezkrytycznie przyjmujemy stereotyp, tak jak byśmy mogli zostać zaprogramowani przez kogoś, np. znajomego, któremu ufamy. Przy pewnych treściach jesteśmy czujni, ale gdy w grę wchodzą np. plotki na czyjś temat, to już tak nie jest. Osoba, o której się plotkuję ma niewiele do powiedzenia, bo wszystko co robi jest już odczytywane przez pryzmat stereotypu. Np. Jan ma przypisany stereotyp złego. Jan czegoś chce coś dać komuś w prezencie. Ten ktoś nie chce przyjąć prezentu, bo myśli sobie, że skoro Jan jest zły to pewnie chce go oszukać, albo przekupić. Nie są ważne rzeczywiste intencje Jana, bo dla kogoś obdarowywanego wynikają one ze stereotypu. Ironią losu jest to, że te obiegowe opinie o kimś, przechodzące z ust znajomych sobie przychylnych są uważane, za te prawdziwe, najprawdziwsze, cenne odkrycia o tym jaka dana osoba naprawdę jest. Nie liczy się prawda o czymś, ale przekonanie kogoś, nakłonienie go do mniemania, że coś jest prawdziwe.

Reklamy korzystają ze stereotypów, tak naprawdę jest to programowanie umysłu, karmienie go stereotypami na temat jakiegoś produktu. Dlaczego to działa? Ano dlatego, że przy wyborach kierujemy się bardziej emocjami niż takim "czystym" intelektem. Jesteśmy programowani przez kilka kanałów - np. poprzez wzrok, węch, słuch, dotyk. Reklamy zachęcają do tego, aby uruchomić wyobraźnie. Kiedy już ją uruchomimy to jak zaczniemy sobie wyobrażać np. jak jemy batonika bounty, zaczynamy czuć powiew wiatru, słyszymy szum morza, czujemy piasek pod swoimi stopami i nagle zatapiamy się w delikatny, soczysty, kokosowy batonik to nagle granica między tym co sobie wyobrażamy tak o, a naszymi pragnieniami staje sie bardzo cienka. Jak już sobie to wyobraziliśmy to trudno będzie odróżnić nasze pragnienia, od nie naszych pragnień. Chodzi o to, że nasza jaźń zostaje zaatakowana, bo my nieświadomie zaczynamy spekulować, myśleć na temat tej reklamy. Potem zapomnimy, że myśleliśmy, ale zostanie pewien ślad w naszej pamięci, pewna kotwica, do której będziemy mogli powrócić. Powrócimy np. jak spostrzeżemy batonika bounty w sklepie. Wtedy powrócą przyjemne wspomnienia o plaży i morzu i batonika kupimy. Bo przecież chcemy być na tej plaży i jeść batonika...
Ogólnie reklama może być jak najbardziej głupia, ale musi nas skłonić do dywagacji na jej temat. Jeśli nie skłania to nie zostanie poprawnie zakotwiczona w pamięci i nie odegra większej roli w przyszłości.
